Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks are starring in a film together at last — and they make quite a powerful pairing.
The acting giants show us why they're Oscar royalty in the first official trailer, out Tuesday, for Steven Spielberg's The Post, a historical drama about the publishing of the leaked Pentagon Papers about the Vietnam War.
The plot focuses on The Washington Post’s Katharine Graham (Streep), the first female publisher of a major American newspaper, and editor Ben Bradlee (Hanks) as they join forces to reveal the 30-year government cover-up while putting their lives and careers on the line.

"If we don't hold them accountable, who will?" Hanks asks Streep in the trailer.
"We can't hold them accountable if we don't have a newspaper," Streep retorts. 
The Post also stars Alison Brie, Sarah Paulson, Jesse Plemons, Matthew Rhys, Carrie Coon, Bruce Greenwood, Michael Stuhlbarg and Bradley Whitford.
The film hits select theaters on Dec. 22, 2017 and theaters everywhere on Jan. 12, 2018.
