Start menu finds its place again

When Windows 8 was released, many users were obviously did not like the omission of some of the basic Windows features such as Start Menu and Start button. Windows 8 was heavily criticized for the drastic changes introduced. It seems Microsoft came back to its senses and brought back the beloved Start Menu and Start button. The Start Menu has been reintroduced in a new avatar. The Windows 8 elements are not totally removed as remnants of it manifests in the Start Menu slides.

The new Task View for multitasking

Multitasking is obviously one of the best features in Windows. Now, the Redmond based software maker has introduced something, it is calling Task View for making it even more enhanced and useful. The great thing about this new feature is that it will display all of your currently opened applications.

The amazing new feature of multiple desktops

In the task menu, Windows 10 will be supporting the newly added capability for viewing multiple desktops. This new feature will enable you to toggle between different desktops. Moreover, in each desktop, multiple applications can run.

Touch features enhanced

Though Microsoft seems to have taken a U-turn by making the changes to make it more familiar with older versions of Windows, the company has not forgotten about the people, who liked the new touch friendly features. The touch features have been enhanced, especially the buttons. The touch screen users will be able to enjoy an optimized touch experience in the latest Windows OS.

Next Generation Windows OS Is On Its Way

Apparently, the next Windows OS is going to be branded as Windows 10, not Windows 9. Microsoft has its own reasons for skipping a number. A recent article in Forbes magazine pointed out that if Microsoft were to follow the exact chronological system for branding their operating systems, then Windows 10 should actually be called Windows 12.

Windows 10 taking a step back to the old Desktop UI

Microsoft, realizing that they made a big leap to the Metro UI, is now going back to the old Desktop UI. They understand that most Windows users would prefer a smooth transition to the Metro-style UI from Desktop UI rather than going through a learning curve in using a new UI. Keeping this in mind, Microsoft has kept the Metro elements to a minimum and has retained most of the Desktop UI elements you saw in Windows 7.

So, Windows 10 will have the Desktop UI as the basic OS structure. Yes, you will have the Start Menu, Taskbar and all other Desktop UI elements. But, some Metro UI elements are also included here, though in a lesser degree when compared to Windows 8. The All Programs section in the Start Menu is replaced with the Metro-style Apps screen.

According to Microsoft, Windows 10 UI and the screen settings will change according to the device on which it is running. So, for example, if you are installing the OS on a tablet, you will see a Metro-style UI rather than the hybrid Desktop UI mentioned above.

In fact, already a Preview version has been released for the Enterprise users. For the Windows 10 download of this preview version, you need to visit the official Microsoft tech support website. But, remember to read the instructions provided there, before you go ahead with the Windows 10 download and installation. Preview OS versions are not for everyone.
